Meet Dr. Augustine Tanner-Ihm

I’m a celebrant, BBC presenter, and educator with a deep respect for the moments that shape our lives - the joyful ones filled with hope and excitement, and the tender ones filled with reflection, remembrance, and love.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of standing beside people during some of the most meaningful transitions in their lives as they begin their journey in marriage. I also guide families and individuals through spiritual milestones that hold deep cultural or emotional significance.

Every ceremony I lead is created with intention. I don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” - I take the time to listen, to learn, and to understand the values, beliefs, and wishes of the people I serve. Whether I’m celebrating a union of love or honouring a life lived, I approach every occasion with presence, purpose, and love.

This work humbles me every day. It reminds me of our shared humanity - and of the beautiful, fragile, sacred nature of life itself.

Testimonials

We feel incredibly blessed to have had Augustine as our celebrant on our wedding day. From the very first meeting, he radiated warmth, kindness, and genuine care for us as a couple. He took the time to really get to know our story, our personalities, and our hopes for the ceremony, ensuring that every word felt personal and meaningful.

Augustine has a gift for creating a relaxed atmosphere that is both deeply sacred and wonderfully joyful. His presence was reassuring, and full of grace — exactly what we needed in the midst of all the excitement and nerves. The way he wove together tradition, personal touches, humour and heartfelt wisdom made our ceremony feel unique to us and profoundly memorable.

Many of our guests commented afterwards on how inclusive, light and yet beautifully delivered the ceremony was. Augustine has a rare ability to connect with people of all backgrounds and beliefs, making everyone feel welcome and part of something special. What’s more, through this journey he has become more than our celebrant — he has become a dear friend. His warmth and care didn’t end when the vows were said; he has continued to be a meaningful part of our lives, and we are so grateful for that.

We cannot thank Augustine enough for the love, dedication, and sincerity he brought to our wedding. He didn’t just officiate our ceremony — he made it an unforgettable celebration of our love and commitment. We will cherish his words and presence for the rest of our lives.

If you are looking for a celebrant who will go above and beyond to make your day deeply personal and truly special, we cannot recommend Augustine highly enough.

Process

I don’t use scripts, templates, or recycled words. Every ceremony I create is written from the heart, thoughtfully crafted to reflect the people, emotions, and values at the center of the moment. Whether it’s a joyful wedding or a heartfelt farewell, I believe the words spoken should feel true, personal, and meaningful — never generic.

Consultation

Initial Meeting

Each ceremony begins with listening. I take the time to understand your story, your beliefs, your culture, and your wishes.

On the Big Day

From the first conversation to the final words spoken, I am committed to showing up with compassion, attentiveness, and genuine presence. This is more than just my work — it’s a sacred responsibility I carry with great care and respect. You’ll never be treated like a number or a checklist. You’ll be seen, heard, and supported — always.
